Making the jump to Rig Electrician
« on: May 22, 2011, 05:09:29 AM »

I'm a licensed industrial electrician from the US. I'm looking to make the jump over to offshore Rig Electrician. I'm yet to see a job post for Rig Electricians that didn't require at least three years experience so I'm assuming I'll need to find a way in as a trainee or something. I've got my industrial electrican certification through the NCCER, and I have a Washington State electrical license that covers industrial, commercial, and residential. I'm currently working in Afghanistan, so I'm used to harsh conditions and long hours. I also have the luxury of being able to take my time getting any required certifications and finding my next job. If anyone has any advice on how to make that jump from industrial electrician to Rig Electrician it would be much appreciated. I'm willing to work anywhere in the world to get my foot in the door.
